Faces of Death (2026)
Premise: Barbie Ferreira works as a content moderator in this not-tiktok app thing, and as such she gets to see all kinds of dumb and messed up stuff for a living. On the other hand though at least it is not Youtube so she doesn’t need to watch (shivers) four hour long video essays, so I guess it’s not all bad. Anyway! One day she starts to run into these extremely-late-70s-looking videos that have a creepy narration and show mock deaths on screen… or are they!? What if they were real even though they look crappy as hell?
Under 90 minutes? Very very close but no.
Do they say the title? Yeah. I mean, the original Faces of Death is a plot point so of course they keep saying the name, which is definitely a good thing if you ask me.
First thing I thought of:

Okay, more: I was an Eighties Kid™ and very into horror stuff (that terrified me back then), so of course I was more than aware of the existence of Faces of Death. Some kid in another class swore that he knew someone who had DIED because they watched the movie, which in hindsight is laughable because that’s what happens when you watch Ringu, but I digress.
So… this is a really campy, cheesy movie that (let’s be very honest here) often feels like an American Horror Story episode. And yet, it is also fun and it feels funny at times to see Kids These Days with Their Tiktoks talking about some basically-urban-legend movie from decades ago. There’s this very inspired scene where the killer posts a video and right after that it immediately gets a million comments and people talking about it “in real life”, which feels 100% like “if we had had the internet then, this would have played out exactly like that”. There’s even a satanic panic kind of news report! So yeah, this gets a thumbs up.
A simple way to improve it: honestly, I’m missing more of that wonderful montage like the one by the end of hashtagchadgetstheaxe, specially people doing silly dances while pretending to mimic the kills, etc. There’s unfortunately only like twenty seconds of that tops and it would have been so good.
Trivia about the IMDb trivia:
Character Logic: Critics and audience reviews have frequently cited “slasher-movie logic” as a flaw, specifically regarding the protagonist’s decisions to stall for evidence or enter dangerous situations alone rather than contacting authorities.
Tough guy on the internet thinks they’d survive a horror movie, more news at 11.
