About a Place in the Kinki Region (2025)

Premise: So there’s one of those occult japanese magazines that look amazing and amazingly cheap, but it’s not doing well. Apparently it all depends on that one article and guess what, the writer just disappeared, leaving behind all the research material. It’s up to a couple of journalists to try and both solve that mystery and hopefully save the magazine!
This is another Koji Shiraishi joint and as usual the question is, is it closer to Noroi or Shirome?

Under 90 minutes? Nope.
Do they say the title? No, they do say the international version I’ve seen on some places (“KINKI”) a lot, but not About a Place in the Kinki Region, no.

First thing I thought of:

Okay, more: I really liked how Shiraishi is very aware of his strengths (short, unsettling and at first kind of disconnected found footage clips), so he throws those in the “regular” movie thanks to the research material and the way the different media styles is mixed works. Very cool folk horror story with some really tense scenes, really oppressive atmosphere at times. If anything I felt a couple of plot points were a bit rushed/wonky but eeeeeh it’s more about the vibe here. So, yeah, happy to report this one is closer to Noroi!

No IMDb trivia yet so i will just let you know that it made me laugh like an idiot when they reveal that the magazine is actually called BEYOND SUPERNATURAL MAGAZINE and later in the movie the guy will refer to it as BESUZINE which got a dumb belly laugh because I’m very easily tickled sometimes.
