They're Watching (2016)

Premise: You know those home improvement type of reality shows where they film (usually) a couple with (always) way too much money buying a house that looks like shit, then they show how things are looking like a few months later? Well this movie is about that, except the house is in Moldova, in probably the tiniest, crappiest village they had around. And the neighbours look creepy as hell, and boy who wouldn’t want to move there?

Under 90 minutes? Almost, but no. And there were a couple of scenes they could have just cut, and I’m looking right at you, sad sob story about being in a cameraman in afganistan scene.
Do they say the title? No!

First thing I thought of:

Okay, more: Well this was fun. Only after watching I found out this was written/directed by people who also worked on Spongebob and then I was like “oooh, so that explains the tone”. It is a silly, dumb movie that is unapologetically stupid at times (laudatory). I was even more than ready to forgive one of the cardinal sins of found footage (“who added the sountrack?”) because A) they let you know and B) the last fifteen minutes are so bonkers that any issue you could have with the movie has to be forgiven. Nice!

A simple way to improve it: There’s this sort of miniteaser by the beginning of the movie where they show you something that happens during the climax. I’m not really sure why they included that (maybe they were concerned the beginning was going to feel a bit slow?), but I feel the movie would be better without it and it’s tiny spoilers.

Trivia about the IMDb trivia:

Writers describe this film as “a workplace comedy that goes horribly wrong” not a horror movie.

My office is not like that, tbh.
